The 18U "AA" division is the House/recreation League for Vancouver Community Baseball's 18U Division.  New players are welcome to join, even if you've never played baseball before!

Players born in 2007 can play 18U as an "overage" player or play 26U.  Overage players can play 18U if they have not played 18U AAA or College Prep and are not permitted to pitch in the Spring season or play on the Summer team according to BCMBA rules.  Written permission by BCMA is required and only up to two players per team allowed.

At this level there is a greater focus on participation and increased opportunity to explore a variety of positions.  This program is also perfect for those unable to make a commitment to intensive baseball programming.

Vancouver Community Baseball's 18U A Spring season division consists of 10-12 teams, depending on the number of players registered.  There are usually 13-15 players per team.

This level is unique as players are assessed only when they are a new player to this level and not required to be assessed the following years.  This is because once a player is assigned to a team, they will be placed onto the same team in subsequent years.  This is mainly due to a combination of social bonding consistent coaching, and league structure for a player's final years.

 

SPRING SEASON SCHEDULE OVERVIEW

• February or early March - New Player assessments are done for all players who did not play 18U AA in the previous year
• Mid-March - Teams are formed. Returning players are placed onto the same team they played on the previous year. New players are placed on teams via draft.
• Mid-April: season begins - typically play 12-14 games
• Mid-June - Playoffs begin - Single or Double elimination tournament
• June 30 - The latest date for the Championship game

Each team will play approximately 12-14 games during the regular season. Most weeks each team will play two games, one on a weeknight and one on a weekend. There may be some variance of this, depending on how many teams there are. We schedule 20 games between April 1st and June 15 knowing that a handful of games will be rained out. We do not reschedule rainouts so teams play approximately 16 games per season. Our standings are based on Winning Percentage.

At the conclusion of the regular season, there is a playoff to determine a season champion.

 

SEASON DATES

• Early April until end of June (playoffs during the last couple of weeks)
• Assessment dates:  February 21 and 28, 2026.  This is conducted only for NEW PLAYERS to 18U "AA" to create balanced teams.  Returning players do not need to attend an assessment session.

 

GAME AND PRACTICE DAYS

• One practice per week + 1-2 games per week (one on a weeknight and one on a weekend)
• Schedule will be uploaded into TeamSnap by the end of March
• Each team will play 12-14 games during the regular season, so most weeks each team will play two games, one on a weeknight and one on a weekend.
• At the conclusion of the regular season, there is a double-elimination playoff to determine the "A" House champion team.

 

RULES

• Base paths are set at 90 feet
• Pitching distance is 60½' (ie. a full-sized baseball diamond)
• "Bat through order" division
• Each player must play a minimum of 3 defensive innings
• No limit to the number of defensive substitutions, except for the pitcher
• Pitching limitations (# of pitches dictates the # of days rest; maximum # of innings pitched per game
• After pitcher removed from the mound, they cannot pitch again for the rest of the game
• Games are 7 innings (new inning cannot be started more than 2 hours 15 minutes after first pitch)
• Balks are called
• Base runners are permitted to lead off
• Running to 1st base on a dropped 3rd strike is allowed (only if 1st base is unoccupied)

PARENT VOLUNTEER DUTIES

As we are a volunteer-run organization, all parents are expected to volunteer to help out with game day duties such as:

• Set up fields
• Scorekeep
• Pitch count
• Gamechanger

 

SUMMER SEASON

For interested players, there is a second baseball season which follows the spring season.  The summer season is managed by BC Minor Baseball.  Each BC Minor Baseball Association can enter one or more teams into the league (most just enter one team).

The summer season runs from late June until the Monday of the BC Day long weekend in August. During that weekend, a provincial tournament is held to determine a Provincial 18U AA Champion team. There are other open tournaments during July that summer teams may enter as well.

In late May, players will be notified of the opportunity to try out for the 18U AA Summer Team.  In order to be eligible to try out and play on this team, players must have played at least half of the spring season games in accordance with BC Minor Baseball Association rules.  The team roster size is usually 13-15 players.  As in spring league, we use a continuous batting order (not 9-man ball) and there are minimum play rules which coaches must follow.

Players selected to the summer team will pay an additional registration fee over their spring season registration fee.  They will also be required to submit a commitment letter, signed by both parents, indicating dates/times when the player will be unavailable for baseball during the summer season.
